Charles Howell III has found himself back in the winner’s circle after a playoff victory against Patrick Rodgers at the RSM Classic on Sunday. This is his first win since 2007 at the Genesis Open. It was so long ago, the tournament was named the Nissan Open at the time he beat Phil Mickelson at Riviera Country Club.
Howell went wire-to-wire on the way to his victory at Sea Island. However, he had to do a lot work just to get in the playoff with Patrick Rodgers. Howell made three birdies over his final four holes to tie Rodgers. He was able to make birdie on the second playoff hole to pick up the win.
Howell’s win took away from the amazing weekend Patrick Rodgers had. After making the cut on the number, Rodgers shot 61 on Saturday and carded a 62 on Sunday. He could not keeps things rolling in the playoff and had to settle for second place.
With the win on Sunday, Howell will pack his bags and join the rest of the 2018 victors at the Plantation Course in Kapalua. He will also return back to the Masters for the first time since 2012.
