Xander Scheauffele finished hot Sunday to pick up the win at the WGC-HSBC Champions. He birdied 17 and 18 to get himself in a playoff with Tony Finau. He knocked in a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the tournament.
Schauffele started the tournament celebrating his 25th birthday. He closed the weekend by recording his lowest score in a final round. “When I was signing my card, I was like, ‘Oh, wow. I actually went birdie-birdie to get in the playoff,” Schauffele said. “I was just in my own world out there.”
Xander had a pretty successful 2nd year on the PGA tour. He had a handful of top finishes and was in contention in majors, but just could not finish strong enough on Sundays. This is his first win since the Tour Championship in 2017. Schauffele now has three victories under his belt. With his sweet swing and course management skills, look for Schauffele to pick up more wins in 2019.
