The Friday round has started at the Riviera Country Club for the Genesis Open. The leaderboard is pretty tight with the top players sitting around 5-under par. This brings up the question: Will the threesome of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas make it to the weekend?
Justin Thomas is in the best position after shooting a 2-under 69 on Thursday. He finished his round with 5 birdies and 3 bogeys. Thomas looks to put behind his NCAA championship loss to Jordan Spieth and the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Championship a few years ago.
Rory McIlroy finished his Thursday round with an even-par 71. He started strong with a birdie on 10, but then bogeyed 3 of the next 7 holes. He made and impressive eagle on 1 and finished the next 8 holes with pars. Rors is coming off a missed cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Tiger Woods had a bit of a roller coaster ride in his first round. He birdied the his first hole, but then went double bogey and bogey on the next 2 holes. He finished his round with 4 birdies and 3 bogeys to card a 1-over 73. Tiger’s short game kept him in the round. He will be looking to put all the pieces together and score well today.
The golf world will be hoping for a low scores from these 3 on Friday. A Hollywood ending is well welcomed by the PGA Tour.
