Rory McIlroy Concerned for Tiger’s Return

While competing in the Turkish Airlines Open (he currently resides at third after three straight 67s), Rory McIlroy took time to comment on Tiger Wood’s recovery from another procedure on his back.

This, via Irish Golf Desk:

“I think any time you touch your back it is tough. It looks like it is a long road to recovery for him and I just hope he gets better, not just to play golf but just for everyday life and being able to do everyday things more than anything else.”

He continued:

“That’s his third back surgery in just over a year and like someone once said, the best way to avoid your fifth back surgery is not to do the first one. But it’s a procedure he needed, he needed it. I just hope he gets better.”

McIlroy hits the nail on the head here. Woods puts so much torque on his body with how hard he swings and further operations on his back would only further hinder the things he wants to go on a golf course.
Then, McIlroy also commented on how the game might be suffering from Woods’ absence.

“To have a global icon like that. I am not saying that the game needs him but he came along at the right time and did a lot for the game.”

Again, it’s hard to disagree here. Though I would say the game just seems more interested with Woods not only playing, but competing for wins. The star power lacking with Woods gone is impossible to ignore.

Get well soon, Tiger.
