President’s Obama & Clinton Play Some Golf

Talk about a power couple! — er, twosome.

Over the weekend, President Barack Obama took part in what has become a sure sign of summer over the last eight years — an August golf trip to Martha’s Vineyard. In the past, Obama’s playing partners have included cabinet members, Ahmad Rashad and Ray Allen.

On Saturday, former President Bill Clinton joined the Commander in Chief for a round at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs, Mass.

According to a report on Yahoo, the two crossed paths at another golf course on the Vineyard (my spidey sense tells me it was the exquisite Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown) and decided to put together their round.

Regardless how you feel about the politics of these men, you’ve got to admit it’s kind of nice to have the most powerful men in the world being devoted to the game of golf. I mean, would you rather them hate the game?

Oh, and thee was no word on how many mulligans were taken during the round.

Social Standout

One of the best parts about Jason Day’s PGA Championship victory at Whistling Straits was the celebration with his son Dash and his wife, Ellie.

During the course of the tournament, Ellie Day kept us all up-to-date with tweets following her husbands’ progress and eventual victory. Even though Jason was the one setting records, after the last putt dropped it was their son –Dash — who stole the show:

Dash has been a fixture with Jason and Ellie either on Twitter or Instagram almost since the moment he was born, so it’s no surprise he hammed it up for the camera’s and ended up being the star of the show at the end of the day.

Soon, Dash will have someone else to frolic in bunkers with following one of Dad’s wins — His mom is currently pregnant with the couple’s second child.

PGA Championship News: Bubba Watson Argues About Ants

As a fan of golf and a golf writer for basically the entire arc of Bubba Watson’s career, I’ve seen and heard some crazy things from the man with the pink driver — but Sunday’s ant argument takes the cake. On the 5th hole during Sunday’s final round, Bubba sought relief from an ant hill — claiming it was made by a burrowing animal. Monday Mulligan

After a crazy week at Whistling Straits, there are plenty of players who wish they could have a mulligan this Monday morning. Perhaps, however, no one is longing for a do-over like Dustin Johnson.

Once again, the week started with DJ near the top of the leaderboard. He slid back a bit on Friday and Saturday — through no real fault of his own, honestly — and found himself four back at the start of the day on Sunday.

Then Sunday started — and from the first hole, his chances to win the Wanamaker trophy vanished in the form of a quadruple-bogey eight.

From the second hole on, however, Johnson played brilliantly, finishing the tournament at 12-under and carding a 7-under round after the blunder, 3-under for the day overall.

Unfortunately, there are no do-overs on the PGA Tour and Johnson is left to once again ponder what might have been.
