Major championships are supposed to identify and separate the best from the rest — though sometimes, some of the best manage to go their entire careers without ever claiming one of golf’s biggest prizes.

No one ever wants to end up being saddled with the title, “best to never,” but unfortunately, it’s all part of sports. Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, Pedro Martinez never tossed a no-hitter (officially) and Reggie Miller never won an NBA title. As they say, “s(tuff) happens.”

Among the names on golf’s “best to never” list are former world No. 1’s, all-time greats and up-and-comers who (we assume) will remove themselves from this list soon.
