Top Five Reasons Rory McIlroy Will Repeat as Player of the Year

Rory McIlroy had a historic year in 2014, winning the Arnold Palmer Award (leading money winner), PGA Player of the Year, PGA Tour Player of the Year, Vardon Trophy, and Byron Nelson Award.  It all started in March when McIlroy lost in a four-man sudden death playoff at the Honda Classic. After that loss there seemed to be a fire that was lit under McIlroy as he began a string of wins and domination in Tiger fashion.

In May he won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth by one stroke. In July, McIlroy won the 2014 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool by two strokes over Rickie Fowler and Sergio García. His third major title having won the 2011 U.S. Open and 2012 PGA Championship, McIlroy became the first European to win three different majors and joined Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as one of three golfers since the first Masters Tournament in 1934 to win three majors by the age of 25. The next week  McIlroy won his first World Golf Championship event at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational atFirestone and returned to world number one.  The following week, he won the PGA Championship at Valhalla for his fourth major, one shot ahead of runner-up Phil Mickelson.

So now the question is, can Rory McIlroy repeat this type of domination in 2015?  Here are five reasons why I think he can.

5. Better Attitude

Gone is the hot headed short temper McIlroy and step in a more calm cool and collective man. With all eyes pointing to next year’s Masters, Rory looks to complete the tours Grand Slam with a win at Augusta National. He insisted experience of recent years had helped him become better at separating between stuff that’s happening off the course and being able to focus on what’s going on the course.

4. New Clubs

Nike launched the new Vapor line late last year and McIlroy just fell in love with them. The Vapor Pro irons have a carbon steel forged construction, precision-machined X3X grooves, slight offset, thin top lines and a satin-chrome finish. The head design involves tungsten plugs that help move the center of gravity closer to the center of the clubface.  We all know if you feel good over your clubs it makes a huge difference in your performance.

3. No Girlfriend

On December 31, 2013 Rory got engaged to Danish tennis professional Caroline Wozniacki. But in May of 2014 it was announced that McIlroy had ended the engagement. After that Rory seemed to pick up his game and flourished the rest of the year. With a clear head and not a worry in the world, McIlroy ran away with the Player of the Year honors for 2014. He has stated “golf is his new girlfriend”.
