Top 7 New Rules to Make Golf Better: The Unexpected

I have been seeing a lot of talk recently in the golf world about trying out new rules to speed up the game or make the game more enjoyable. So I thought I would put together my top 7 new rules that I think should be implemented into the game of golf. Some of these “new” rules might not be like others you have seen tossed around in the last few years, but nonetheless I think you will find them quite perfect.

So let’s get into the these new rules of golf, first by talking about new penalties.

New Rule #7 :

  • 1-Stroke Penalty for taking more that three practice swings on the tees box. Let’s face it, those 10 practice swings aren’t going to stop you from shanking your tee shot into the houses lined along the fairway, so let’s just get it over with and hit your ball.

When you are on the tee taking 10 practice swings, this is what’s happening behind you on the course.  Get moving!!

New Rule #6:

  • Automatic 1-stroke penalty for men over age 45 wearing bright orange shirts in attempt to look like Rickie Fowler. Some things are just flat out wrong and this is one of them. If you are nearing age 50 or over age 50, please dress appropriately.

If you can’t figure out what to wear out on the course, just follow what Fred Couples does.

New Rule #5:

  • 2 Stroke Penalty for yelling out “Get in the hole”. Some things in golf started out as pretty fun, but then after years of overuse they have become quite annoying. Yelling out “Get in the hole” is NOT cool. Let’s try being original and come up with something new people.

New Rule #4:

  • 1-stroke penalty for taking out your cell phone to send a text, check a message or answer a phone call during a round of golf unless you are driving to the next hole. If you are standing on the green sending a text message while waiting to putt, get back in your golf cart, drive to the parking lot, get in your car and just go home. Please make golf enjoyable to for everyone. There is a reason they have commercials promoting “While we’re young.”
