The LPGA Tour will visit Pittsford, NY this week for the fourth of five majors this season – The Wegmans LPGA Championship. The $2.25 Million dollar purse is one of the biggest of the year on Tour. With less than ten tournaments left on the 2014 schedule, the ladies are heating up the race for the CME Globe. There is 625 precious points up for grabs this week and could go a-long way to determining the winner.
Defending Champion Inbee Park comes in this week off a runner-up finish in the Meijer Classic and is looking for her first major win of the year. Park has been playing some dynamic golf as of late and looks to carry over that play this week in the ladies championship. Mirim Lee coming off her surprising win last week over Park in a sudden death playoff, will look to make it two in a row this week.
The surprise news this week has to be that Michelle Wie will not be in the field this week. Wie withdrew from last week’s tournament with a right hand injury. An MRI later revealed a stress fracture in her right index finger. World #1 Stacy Lewis will try to bounce back after a couple rough weeks on the course and win her first major of the year. Suzann Petterson comes into this week as one of the hottest ladies on tour after a great couple weeks of golf.
Who to Watch Out For?
You have to watch Inbee Park this week as the defending champion she would be a great bet to win. More notables to keep an eye on are Paula Creamer, Lydia Ko, Cristie Kerr, Beatriz Recari, and Azahara Munoz. You can’t go wrong with any of those young ladies but look out for Jessica Korda this week.
