Lewis Fires Sizzling 65 to take share the Lead
Day two is complete and Lewis made her move to the top with a very hot round of 6-under 65 for a total -10 at the LPGA Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. Lewis made four straight birdies and eight overall to shoot 65. Lewis had a smoking hot flat blade actually getting to -11 after 17 holes but 3 putted her last hole. However, even with the 3-putt she was able to finish with a nice statistic of only 27 putts for round 2.
Let’s remember that Lewis is a crowd favorite with one of the largest galleries to date following the University of Arkansas Alum. The crowds were enjoying a fabulous Lewis day of up-and-downs and 1 putt birdies. The other players could hear the groans and yells for Lewis with her every move and it wasn’t very difficult to understand that Lewis was on the move and hunting down her competitors and of course ‘old man par’.
When asked how Lewis was feeling being tired for the lead, she replied, “There’s definitely going to be pressure there and I think the thing that motivates me more is that I have a bet with my caddie going, but I can’t tell you ‑‑ you’ll see what it is on 17 tomorrow, but as long as I’m in the final group tomorrow you’ll see what it is on 17. So I think that’s what motivated me more than anything today was I wanted to be in that final group going into tomorrow.” (Hmmm, now what could that be…I know I will tune in to check this out! What will the world see on the 17th hole between Miss Lewis and her caddy…inquiring minds would like to know!)
Lewis will have some talented challengers looking to steal the victory. As a matter of fact, the top of the leaderboard has 7 players within 2 shots of the leaders and Lewis is not the only one at -10. Recardi, Ryu and Arimura are all tied at 10 under and the lowest ranking of these 3 players is 32nd in the world…these girls can play!
Amateur and young phenom Lydia Ko is just around the corner at 7-under and looking to finish strong tomorrow. Inbee Park, World Rolex #1 is also in the hunt only 2 back of the pack and she feels her game is in great shape to go low tomorrow.
And who is lurking in the short background??…The Veteran Juli Inkster who still has game! Miss Inkster is only 4 back of the leader and don’t put it past her to be fired up tomorrow to knock them dead. I have played many times with Juli and this is a young lady that can stand the test of time…her mental game and toughness is unlike anyone you have ever seen. I would pick her for my fantasy golf team every time.
The final round is set and there are major championship winners at the top along with a young phenom amateur and top world ranked players in the world. Bottom line–it is anyone’s tournament to win. As always, it will come down to the most mentally tough and the player with the hottest putter.
I think this may just go into a playoff. Your thoughts?
