ATLANTA - So let's first start by asking the question, was Tiger Woods intimidated? I think we can clearly answer that with a clear... NO!
Tiger Woods has grabbed a share of the lead with Justin Rose in the first round of the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola, which is the finale of the FedExCup Playoffs.
With Tiger Woods being paired with Rory McIlory, it was obvious they would have the largest gallery following them at East Lake Golf Club. The pairing could not have been set up more perfectly as earlier in the week Greg Norman had the comment that Tiger Woods was intimidated by Rory McIlory.
Woods made six birdies in a 4-under-par 66 while McIlory shot a 69.
"I enjoy playing with Rory. He's a great kid," said Woods, who wins a third FedExCup if he wins the Tour Championship. "Over the years there are certain pairings for me that I've enjoyed, and Rory is one of them."
Among Woods and Rose, here are some of the other notables.... Phil Mickelson (69), Steve Stricker (67), Hunter Mahan (68), Adam Scott (68), Zach Johnson (68), Brandt Snedeker (68), Bubba Watson (69), Sergio Garcia (69), Dustin Johnson (69), and 2011 FedExCup champion Jim Furyk (69).
The pairings have been reconfigured for Friday's second round, and Woods will play with co-leader Rose. McIlroy will play with Mickelson.
