After a hot start and a possible storming of the leaderboard Tiger Woods found himself faltering a bit in the standings.
Woods moved into a tie for tenth early in the round and found himself just three strokes back of the leader and sitting at 5-under for the tournament. However, several unfortunate bunker shots and a couple bogeys put Tiger back towards the bottom of the leaderboard.
When he finished his round today Woods was six strokes behind then-leader Ernie Els. However, by the end of the first round a new leader had emerged in Briny Baird, who also shot a 68 in today's round.
"I was really close to putting it together," Woods said, recognizing that he had several missed opportunities. "It's getting better. It's getting better. I'm improving day by day, which is good. Obviously tomorrow I need to improve a lot and make the putts and post a really low one tomorrow."
Following tomorrow's final round of the Frys.com Open Woods isn't expected to play again until next month's Australian Open.
