Roger Federer Discusses Struggles of Tiger Woods

Written by on September 7, 2011 in Golf News - No comments

For an entire decade Roger Federer and Tiger Woods were on top of their respective sports. Most considered each man the best man to ever take the course. Federer was chasing, and ultimately surpassing, Pete Sampras' all time Grand Slam record. Woods was chasing, and still is, Jack Nicklaus' record for victories in a Major championship.

Federer and Woods developed a close bond, and were even seen in commercials together. However, the recent struggles Woods has faced both professionally and personally, have been hard for Federer to watch.

"He's done so much in such a short period of time and for such a long time, actually, which is where I also draw the inspiration from. To see those great athletes do it for a very long time, I've been able to do something similar in that regard. It's been tough for him the last year. He knows that. It's been hard to watch. I only wish him the best."

While Woods will finish 2011 without a victory in a Major, Federer is currently in the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open, where he is looking to win his first Grand Slam since the 2010 Australian Open.
