Ping is such a highly respected name in the world of golf, from the pro circuit on down to the local greens, that when they debut a new line of clubs everyone is going to pay attention. It was no different, therefore, when the Ping G5 Iron Set was designed and launched. An improvement on Ping's G2 model, the Ping G5 Iron Set was particularly welcomed by players who needed a little more help getting the ball up in the air. In general, they were mid to high handicappers.

Like the rest of its impressive product line, Ping designed, developed and engineered their clubs with meticulous detail and precision, and the Ping G5 Iron Set was no different. Ping engineers reworked the design of the sole as well as the tuning port so that there would be higher launch and greater forgiveness, as well as making some small tweaks to the overall design.
With the Ping G5 Iron Set, the head's center of gravity is lower and deeper than in other clubs. This ensures that the ball is going to launch higher, and it also makes improvements to the shot's accuracy. The Ping G5 Iron Set's custom tuning port, or CTP, was large and thin in order to absorb vibrations. As any player could tell you, that's a big factor in controlling the ball. Working in synergy with the other design aspects of the club head are the two uniform cavities, which support the face and allow for more movement of the weight to the perimeters. As a result, different clubs in the Ping G5 Iron Set have different feels. The longer Ping G5 Irons have the lowest and deepest center of gravity of the series, while the mid irons have their CG in the middle. The short Ping G5 Irons keep their CG higher since they were designed to get the ball up in the air.
The Ping G5 Iron Set was a big hit when it first appeared and is still the favorite iron set of countless golfers around the world.
