While it was tough to improve on the original Eye 2, the design and engineering teams at Ping worked long and hard to bring an even better model of iron to the sport. The result was the Ping Eye 2 Plus Irons. A big new improvement in the original model were the reshaped soles, which were yet another aspect of the clubs to improve their users' games. The goal there was to reduce by as much as possible the amount of surface area that came in contact with the actual grass. The perimeter weighting was increased, which was a continuation of the trend set by the original Ping Eye 2. The result was much greater feeling of command and control and significantly tighter and neater shots. The Ping Eye 2 Plus Irons also sought to minimize club bounce as much as possible so that users could get even more control over the ball. Like the original Eye 2, the Ping Eye 2 Plus Irons came in a total of 12 different clubs for optimal versatility. Length ranged from 35.00" to 39.75", and the bounce had a range of 15 degrees to -4.
The Ping Eye 2 Plus Irons really served to open up the game to thousands of players who previously had been using blades that just didn't do enough to make the game easier. The technology introduced in the Ping Eye 2 Plus Irons was truly revolutionary, and players who only enjoyed the sport occasionally or as much as their day jobs would allow suddenly found themselves with a true ally on the green.
