NORTON, Mass. – On a day where everyone was looking towards Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy to play well and get matched up as the final pairing on Labor Day at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Louis Oosthuizen went on a record setting birdie run.
Oosthuizen set the record for score on the front nine (29) and most birdies in a row (seven) and has climbed his way to a decent lead at the end of the third round.
Oosthuizen stuck his approach to 2 feet on the 10th hole for birdie No. 8, moving to 19 under for the tournament and five shots ahead of McIlroy as they played the back nine. The streak finally ended when he parred No. 11.
The PGA Tour record for most consecutive birdies is nine, set by Mark Calcavecchia in the second round of the 2009 RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey GC.
Oosethuizen will need to continue his good play if he wants to take the win at TPC Boston. Woods, McIlroy and several others are playing extremely well and will be looking for an opportunity to steal the win from Oosthuizen.
