Stuart Appleby reached the magic number at Greenbriar - 59. That’s such a phenomenal feat and it’s only been done by four other players since the PGA has kept record. The most recent one before Appleby’s was just a few weeks ago at the John Deere classic. A few things come to mind when I see such low numbers on the board like this weekend. Is it the equipment? Are the courses chosen too easy for these pros? How would I do on this same course?
The winner of this tournament, Appleby, was 22 under par which is unbelievable but it’s even more amazing that he only won by one stroke. Aside from the other players and yourself, isn’t the course supposed to be part of the game? It’s a short course, just barely over 7,000 yards and soft conditions added up to some amazing scores. Maybe it’s time for me to get out to West Virginia and hit this course. It might bring back the confidence I’ve been lacking of late.
