Learn the Proper Chip Techniques

July 10th, 2007 | Written by Editor | Category: Golf Tips |

My short game has always been one of my biggest weaknesses, but after reading and getting tips from all kinds of players, I have finally figured out the quick and easy steps to making my short game work. The main thing to remember that to play the short games with your wedges, you will need to properly align your feet and aim the clubface correctly to determine how high and how far the ball will fly. The proper setup ensures a confident swing that produces a shot with backspin and even sideswing that will help reduce the amount of roll from the landing spot.

1) Open up your stance in relation to the target line (the line from the ball to the target), meaning that you put your left foot a little bit behind your right foot (this is assuming you swing right handed), which forms another line from your right foot to a point left of the target.

2) Open up your clubface to the right so you will be have a inside/out swing path.

A great way to gain distance control is to memorize how open your stance needs to be to hit a certain distance. For example, to hit the maximum distance, you don’t open your stance at all. To cut your distance down shorter, you open your stance a little bit more and so on and so on. It must be noted that you should have pretty good control of your swing to begin learning these shots.
