Released: February 15, 2007
Game Improvement Irons

The Callaway X-20 Irons are the perfect blend of technology, innovation and playability that will make sure your game takes off to the next level. Featuring the Progressive Wall Reduction system to lower the center of gravity to improve feel and playability along with Callaway’s patented Core Technlogies, it’s no wonder Golf Digest named the X-20s the Game-Improvement Irons of year for 2007.

Callaway X-20Key Features:

  • Progressive Wall Reduction System - Callaway engineers were able to lower the center of gravity by 6% from the X-18s using the wall reduction system.
  • Extreme Notch Weighting - Stability and Forgiveness are acheived by using Extreme Notch Weighting to move the weights to the perimeter of the club which in turn increases the Moment of Inertia of the club.
  • Patented Callaway Golf Core Technologies - With Callaway’s VFT Technology, they have been able to acheive maximum ball speed and perimeter weighting to produce longer and more forgiving shots.
  • S2H2 Technology - redistributes the weight from the hosel to more of the perimeter of the club.
  • Tru-Bore - increases the feel and control of the club head by moving the center of gravity lower and farther back. This is achieved with a 360 degree undercut channel on the back of the clubhead, which enlarges the sweet spot and promotes more forgiving shots.

Golf Digest Hot List
Manufacturer: Odyssey Golf
Released: 2007
Game Improvement Irons
Models - #1, #2, #3
Odyssey Black Series

Combining precision milled putters with traditional styling, the Odyssey Black Series is designed for the elite performer. By using a multi-material construction, Odyssey has designed a milled steel putter that is a rare combination of beauty, technology and performance. Given a rich, nickel-plated finish, the putterhead is milled from tungsten and 1025 carbon steel to give it a low center of gravity. The Odyssey Black series also uses the Fine-Tuned Loft System to produce an optimum loft angle to produce pure and true roll characteristics.

Key Features:

  • Multi-Material Construction - combining the weighted tungsten flange with the 1025 carbon steel body creates a low, deep center of gravity to promote a pure roll.
  • Precision Milled Head - Optimum balanced weighting to promote greater accuracy and a great feeling stroke.
  • Hogged-Out Hosel - Removing weight from the hosel and redistributing it to the tungsten flange helps create a lower center of gravity to promote truer roll.
  • Urethane Dampening Layer - dampens the vibration between the tungsten and carbon steel to enhance feel and touch around the green.

Golf Digest Hot List
Manufacturer: Nike Golf
Released: 2007
Blade Putters
Models: Neo - Retro - Tiempo
Nike Unitized

Nike Unitized putters transmit vibrations that resonate from the player’s natural sensory systems to give an unparalleled level of feel on the putting green. The results is better distance control coming from an amazing improvement in feedback.

According to Nike, human hands are most sensitive to vibrations between 100Hz to 300Hz, which means this is the frequency that provides the best optimum feedback. Unlike traditional bonded putters that generate vibrations outside the optimum frequency, Nike’s unitized construction creates a powerful and consistent response that results in better distance control.

With it’s unique OptiFit weighting system using 50 grams of weight throughout the Carbon Fiber Body, it has the ability to be customized to produce 3 different Center of Gravitys to produce Draw Shots, Straight Shots and Fade Shots.Of course, the most intimidating feature of this club is the maximized area of the Titanium Cup Face which walks the fine line drawn by the USGA, but gives you the ball speed, distance and forgiveness you would expect from a club of this stature:ft5driverchart.jpgKey Features:

    Callaway Fusion FT-5

  • Fusion Technology - Revolutionary new weight distribution system that can move the center of gravity around the head of the club to optimize each individual swing.
  • OptiFit Weighting System - The brains behind the Fusion Technology which uses 3 components to distribute the 50 grams of weight around the head of the club.
  • CT/VFT Titanium Cup Face - Bigger and Hotter face to give you more chance to hit the ball with greater distance.

What’s New with Titleist?

Monday, January 31st, 2005

What is new for Titleist in 2005?

This is an effort to provide useful information on the 2005 Titleist products

For the new products, Titleist has boasted them tighter as compared to the Fort Knox. Even Titleist reps are likely to get some idea of what to expect in gaze to the all new products.  Here is what all you wanted to know –

The Drivers
The new Titleist drivers have gained skyrocketing popularity among the golfers all across the world. One might have noticed that the shiny black and silver head that covers in Davis Love III’s staff bags. Though Ernie Els, in the beginning of the year 2005, opined about the distance one can get with new drivers, which is great, the sound seems not to be what he is used to! The new drivers will be known as the 905 series and would come in two great versions; the 905S and 905T.

One of the most noticeable changes with those heads is the size. Although the current series (983) presents about 350-360cc, the 905 would be somewhat in higher (about 400cc) range. The 905S would also have a deep club face that will provide low spin though high launch. In other case, the 905T would have comparatively shallower face with high spin bias that would replace 983K. The options for new shaft for the year 2005 would include Aldila NV 85 and a Grafalloy Blue. However, the Titleist Speeder would be terminated in the year 2005.

Fairway Woods
Titleist has been disliked by many people in many departments, at least for a while since many of their staffers are stick to their old 970’s and Pro Trajectories instead of going for the new 980Fseries. The new line is known as the 904F and contains the sole that is much more resonant of the 970 Fairway Metals that found the place in the bags of Adam Scott and Tiger Woods. Since the driver has shallow sole, it assists in increasing the contact of the ball and on the other hand, it prevents fat shots when a golfer hits tight lies. One can await for the same shaft options offered by the current 980F series.

Wedges

The year 2005 would be great for Titleist; they get you another newer option as The Vokey Spin Milled Wedges. They have been designed to offer high spin, smooth feel though consistency and hence, they have been a very popular, especially among amateurs. They are some of the most sought for clubs can be seen on all the tours. Though the basic designs of the newer wedges have remained almost same, the milled face would be a first for Titleist. As the club itself would be cast, the face and grooves would be milled in a machine that would increase the manufacturing accuracy and hence, with more exact grooves, such wedges would be able to contribute in more spinning into the shots played.

Putters

It is quite common that when some great golfer thins about putters, he is likely to think about Scotty Cameron. The Cameron is Titleist’s putter designer and they are more artistic, more than just a golf accessory. Most of the pros on Tour go for custom made putters those are direct from Cameron and in the year of 2005, there had been some buzz about all the newer offerings. However, it looks as though the hype is warranted.

One of the most sought after products in the year 2005 would be new Studio Style series that would have same styles what the Studio Stainless line, however, very important noticeable upgrade is the addition of a German Stainless Steel (GSS) insert. The GSS is unique steel that is preferred for making such devices since it offers softness and responsiveness. It is therefore, many of the Tour players, including Tiger Woods have their all the putters made up from GSS; hence, it was just a matter of time before this wonderful material has hit the retail market.

Another reintroduction would be of American Classic Series in the year of 2005 that included some of the Cameron’s older works such as Bullseye and Napa blade and it is for sure that they would be instant collector items and two of the most desired clubs in the Titleist lineup.

Irons

Here, one should not look for any newer irons till last spring or early summer at the earliest. Nevertheless, there is a rumor of having one great newer product to be launched is the new 735CM forged combo set that includes blades in the PW-8-irons and a progressive cavity in 7-3-irons. However, they have been seen at Tour events and it seems that their success might help brining them into the retail market.
