Callaway, one of the most prestigious names in golf, has released two new model drivers to the public that are causing quite a stir amongst users.  They utilize the companies trademarked Fusion multimaterial technology, but other than that are two violently different clubs.  The FT-i, where the i stands for inertia, is a more aggressively shaped club, whereas the FT-5 is a revolutionized update to the FT-3 driver.  Both the clubs, however, are beautifully constructed and designed, which results in higher performance for each club.  One of the other main differences between the FT-1 and the FT-5 are the construction of the face, as the FT-i has a slightly deeper and more narrow hitting area than its FT-5 counterpart.


While the performance of the two clubs definitely differs, much of this has to do with the overall construction of each club.  While I mentioned some of the physical differences earlier in the review, that is certainly not the extent of the differences between the FT-i and FT-5 drivers.  Callaway has given the FT-i an unusually square design, but it is a relatively easy setup for any user.  The FT-5 is going to be much more user friendly, and provides the user with a much cleaner and less complicated approach to hitting the ball.  From every angle the FT-i looks much more unique, whereas the appearance of the FT-5 is a much more traditional look that most golfers will be more accustomed to.

As I stated before, the FT-5 looks significantly larger than the FT-i, but in reality the clubheads both have the same volume.  The FT-5 also has a wider face area and a shorter body, two significant differences from the FT-i.  Both drivers, however, feature a dashing flash of red on the sole, and a little bit of aluminum for added durability.  Overall, both these clubs, although different, give positive performances on the course, and that is all that matters.

Once again Ping has built upon an already remarkable club to create one that is, well even more remarkable.  The G10 was labeled the most forgiving club on the market, meaning that perhaps the all new Ping G15 is the most, most forgiving club on the market?  Ping looked to build upon its previous success with the G10 and add to its already sterling reputation.  It features a visually appealing club head, similar to the rest of Ping's G series.  The blend of metallic shine and black and red coloring make the Ping G15 one of the sharpest looking irons on the course, but its impressive statistics don't tell all the story.


Like we stated before, the Ping G15 is one of the most forgiving irons available.  Golfers live their entire lives fearing the proverbial mis-hit, but with the G15 they don't have to be quite as worried.  Most clubs happily advertise their so-called sweet spot, which more often than not is nothing but a microscopic spot on the club that they claim will guarantee proper, perfect contact with the ball.  However, with the Ping G15 a sweet spot is a non issue, mainly because the entire face of the club can be considered a sweet spot.  For a smooth, slick stroke, the Ping G15 is one of the best irons on the market.

The level of innovation and design that Ping has put forth in the G15 is truly remarkable.  Like I said before, Ping has long been known for their expertise in this area, and the G15 is another fantastic step forward.  Continuing excellence and professionalism, the Ping G15 is a worthy successor to the critically acclaimed G10.  Any golfer looking to improve his or her game on the links would be wise to add the Ping G10 to their bag.

The latest line of irons produced by Nike may be a little more impressive than others because of who it was initially designed by, Tiger Woods.  Now, unless you've been living on the moon for the past fifteen years, you know that this is a big deal.  Of course there was that commercial with Tiger on the moon, but that isn't exactly relevant to this.  Anyways, the latest series of irons from Nike, known as the Victory Reds, is coming off as one of the most workable and dependable set of irons on the market.  While clubs alone aren't going to make any of us play like Tiger, we can at least use his clubs.


The Nike Victory Red Forged Split Cavity Irons have been built with the user in mind, and have been constructed to allow the players to work the ball as much as possible.  They are also a very forgiving set of irons, and give the user a high level of control and spin, two things that any golfer will be happy to add to their collection of skills.  The split cavity design is intended to keep the weight behind the club's sweet spot for added control and forgiveness, hence the necessity of the design style in the clubs name.

Cleveland Golf has developed a reputation as one of the best iron manufacturing companies on the planet, but for one reason or another hasn't received the global attention that they probably deserve.  Recently, with the release of the CG Red Irons they have given just one more reason to the golfing world as to why they deserve their attention.  Different from other manufacturers, Cleveland develops their irons with a different appearance and construction.  While many companies offer either triangular or square faced clubs, Cleveland is sticking with the swooped-back HiBORE model, which was frowned upon at first but then received rave reviews with the release of the HiBORE XL.  The Cleveland CG Red Irons, however, are a solid set of irons with positive specifications and impressive aesthetics.


While the specifications are impressive, as I stated before, the aesthetics are my favorite part of this particular club.  The sparkling chrome completes a simple, yet elegant look that is both impressive and majestic.  The satin hitting area on the face of the club is another beautiful aspect of the Cleveland CG Red Irons, and make it one of the best looking irons on the market.

The performance of the Cleveland CG Red Irons is almost as impressive as the way the clubs look.  This particular set of irons is going to appeal more to the better players, but that doesn't mean lesser skilled individuals should keep their distance from the CG Red Irons, but it certainly will appeal more to the higher skilled players.  Cleveland has included their Micro-Cavity Technology, which are small cavities underneath the topline of the club that allow the weight to be positioned elsewhere, this small yet useful design gives the user a much higher level of forgiveness on the court, and we all know how much that is appreciated.

The Nike CCi Forged Irons have not been manufactured for users looking to improve their game.  They have not been designed for beginners looking to take strokes off their final round score.  They have not been constructed for the eager amateur looking to prove himself on the course.  The Nike CCi Forged Irons are built with better players in mind, and have been fashioned for high amounts of feel, workability, and a piercing trajectory that are built to take a good player and make them better.  An inexperienced amateur will find more frustration from the Nike CCi Forged Irons than they will improvement on their game.  The advanced player, however, will notice that the CCi Forged Irons will take their already solid game and give them a little more swagger.


Nike generally produces clubs that have pleasant aesthetics, and the CCi Forged Irons are no exception.  While they don't have the type of innovation or design that is going to blow anybody away, they are still great looking irons that emit a professionally styled appearance.  The CCi irons are forged from 1025 Carbon Steel and have been constructed particularly to provide pleasing feedback.  The feedback from this particular set of irons is a tad firmer and harsher than most, but many golfers prefer this form of feedback.

The sweet spot on the Nike CCi Forged Irons is smaller than other such irons, hence the need for more skilled players when using this particular club.  This particular club is also not as forgiving as say a Titleist or other, more user-friendly manufacturer.  That doesn't mean that the Nike CCi Forged Irons are clubs to stay away from, it just further cements the fact that this club will favor more experienced players.  Overall, the Nike CCi Forged Irons are a positive set of clubs for any experienced user looking for some fine-tuning.

Titleist has gained a reputation as being one of the most traditional companies in golf, but they have apparently taken a different approach with their latest driver.  The triangular shaped 907D1 driver features an aluminum bore-through hosel and sleeve, which serves to better attach the shaft to the clubhead.  This provides added stability and strength, two things that all golfers recognize as necessities.  This also kills the paranoia golfers sometimes feel when they are afraid they might accidentally pull the hosel sleeve when trying to change shafts.  The Titleist 907D1 also utilizes a "Traditional Geometry Circle" that helps the club blend higher MOI with workability.  This is going to make the overall use of the Titleist 907D1 much more pleasurable for the golfer.


This triangular driver from Titleist is a solid addition to their prestigious set of equipment, and it is performs about as well as any other similarly constructed driver.  The shaft of this particular driver is slightly heavier than most, obviously making it a little heavier but also a bit sturdier in you hands.  The Titleist 907D1 driver is a sleek, pulled back club that maximizes performance through its dimensions and specifications.  The distance that the driver can provide is impressive indeed, and needless to say can put some distance between you and the competition, literally.  However, my favorite aspect of the Titleist 907D1 driver was the level of forgiveness that it provided.  Most drivers fail to deliver both the power and forgiveness that Titleist has squeezed into this particular club.

Overall I would say that Titleist has lived up to its reputation, but also gone away from it in a fairly successful way.  By avoiding tradition and seeking innovation they have proven themselves as an industry elite, and the Titleist 907D1 driver might carry them into the future.

Alright, so you know how all golf companies are different but generally just the same?  Sure their clubs vary by performance and specification, but all seem to follow the same general ideas for most of their products.  Well, I would like to introduce you to the latest acid-induced design plans from the people at Scotty Cameron, the Newport Detour Putter.  To be frank ladies and gentlemen, this thing looks more like a weapon from a James Cameron flick than a Scotty Cameron club, but still performs positively on the course.  While overall the club features a relatively simple design, there is one particular aspect of the club that makes it both innovative and bizarre.


The large arc sticking out of the back of the Scotty Cameron Newport Detour Putter turns this ordinary putter into a strange looking device.  The engineers at Scotty Cameron have long stuck to the idea that strong putting strokes are essential to success on the green, and it is this creed that they have designed this Newport Detour Putter after.  This particular putter is a high MOI styled putter, which give it an increased stability and a built-in training aid.

While the appearance of the club is futuristic, and for lack of better words, totally cool, it can cause some problems on the course, at least to an extent that will take some getting used to.  The subtle curve of the club can cause confusion when the club is first used, and can cause balls to skew left or right depending on the angle.  A more defined curve is usually a little easier to compensate for, but the small, subtle curve in the Scotty Cameron Newport Detour Putter makes it more difficult at first.  Overall I would say that this particular club is a solid choice for a more experienced user, just be forewarned that it may take a little adjusting to at first.

The HiBORE series of clubs has been making the rounds in the PGA Tour, improving the game of many professionals in many different tournaments.  The predecessor to the critically acclaimed XLS driver, the Cleveland HiBORE XL is a modernly shaped driver that gives the user plenty of power and strength.  This particular driver gets a lot of attention from the golfing public, generally because it was used by former PGA winner Vijay Singh, but also because of its technological innovation.  Cleveland has marketed the HiBORE XL driver as a type of club that is going to take distance driven geometry to the next level.


A lot is always made out of the appearance of a club, and the Cleveland HiBORE XL driver is certainly a good looking piece of equipment.  It features a bullet-styled design that has been described as "swooped-back."  While the XLS is considered an upgrade over the XL, there is no question that this particular club is a significant step up from the even earlier model, the Cleveland HiBORE.  The XL features a precision cast aerospace-grade ultra-thin titanium alloy body with a high-grade titanium face.  It also follows the same general design as its predecessor, though the XL has a much deeper face.

The look and feel of the Cleveland HiBORE XL driver is somewhat staggering at times.  The appearance is different from most standardized clubs, making the user somewhat uncomfortable when first using the club.  However, the performance and specifications of the HiBORE XL driver are certainly impressive, but my favorite aspect of this particular driver is the appearance.  While many traditionalists are going to frown towards the bullet-shaped clubhead, but I think it is a fabulously designed club that has a modernized look.  The overall looks and performance of the Cleveladn HiBORE XL driver are top-notch, and worth taking a shot on.

The latest fad amongst drivers is the addition of High MOI abilities into the clubs.  This has spawned numerous attempts to create big name drivers with high moments of inertia for optimum performance on the course.  One of the shining examples of this trend is the Tour Edge Bazooka GeoMax driver, which has the look and feel of a dominating driver that has the power to send the ball soaring into the blue, and possibly landing near the green.


The reason for the High MOI trend in golf today is to create drivers that have a larger sweet spot and are less prone to off-centered hits.  The Tour Edge Bazooka GeoMax driver does a solid job of providing all these tools to the user, and when compared to similar styled drivers in its class it carries with it a much more reasonable price.  The appearance of the Bazooka GeoMax is something that I haven't seen before.  It is chromed wonderfully with a beautiful finish that represents professional style play.  A polished titanium blends magically with sets of sweeping lines to make one of the best looking drivers on the market.

It is obvious that the Tour Edge Bazooka GeoMax driver looks like a powerful club, but the performance and abilities of the club back this statement up as well.  This might be my favorite looking driver released this year, but that would be irrelevant if it was unable to perform.  Luckily, the Tour Edge Bazooka GeoMax driver has both the looks and skills to be a top competing driver in the game of golf.
