I was driving to work the other morning and heard Frank Deford’s commentary on Erik Compton. Many of you probably have already heard that Compton received his THIRD heart transplant and made the cut at Greenbriar a few weeks ago. I don’t know what it is about this story but I always seem to find myself stopping what I’m doing to learn more about this situation. I don’t know what’s more amazing, the fact that he’s gone this far in his golf career with an ailment or the fact that he’s been a recipient of THREE hearts.
Either one, it’s pretty unbelievable. Maybe what I need to improve my golf game is a new brain. Or I’ll even take one of his old hearts. There is something about Compton that attracts some type of positive energy. I don’t mean to demean his situation or sound crass because I am sure things haven’t always been easy, but you have to admit that there is some type of halo or guardian angel for this guy.
