Tony Finau has been a top name thrown around when it comes to who should be pick for the last spot on the Ryder Cup. It seems like the captain Furyk has a tough choice. He can choose from a group of players like Kevin Kisner, Xander Schauffele, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and a handful of other big names.
Finau seems to stand out from this group of PGA Tour players. He has been very competitive at most of the majors this year. He finished 5th at the U.S Open, T9 at The Open Champioship and T10 at The Masters. His only finish outside of the top 10 was at The PGA Championship where he still made the cut at finished T42.
Even though he didn’t finish strong at The PGA Championship, he still showed flashes of great play. He had a crazy front nine on the 2nd day, which included 7 birdies (5 in a row to start the round). Finau also fired a hole-in-one at the par 3 tournament at The Masters. He severely sprained his ankle in celebration, but still managed to play and finish in the top 10.
He has also had a runner up showing at The Safeway Open, Genesis Open and The Northern Trust. He can flat out play golf. He has shown his all around game the past year. Finau would be a great playing partner, especially with his strength off the tee. He should be Furyk’s last pick for the American team.
