The United States Ryder Cup captain, Jim Furyk announced three of his four picks on Tuesday night. The choices he made did not seem to surprise many people.
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau were added to the American team and will look to pick up their first win on European soil since 1993. The U.S. Team picked up the victory two years ago at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota with Davis Love III as the captain.
Phil Mickelson seemed to be the only favorites to make the team to start the calendar year. He has made it on every Ryder Cup team since 1995. This is the first time Lefty has not made the team automatically.
Byrson DeChambeau was not even in the Ryder Cup picture to start the year. He began the season pretty well with some strong finishes in the early tournaments. But he has been on fire the past couple of months. He picked up a big win at the Memorial Tournament, home of Jack Nicklaus. He seemed to be fighting some swing issues a few weeks ago, but that is all in the past. DeChambeau just picked up two very impressive back-to-back victories to start the FedExCup championship. He will be the number one seed going into the FedExCup finale at Eastlake in a couple of weeks.
One of the biggest surprises this year has been the play of Tiger Woods. Just months ago many thought his playing days were over. He went from a vice captain, to a member of the team in just a few months. He has definitely ignited a spark to the golf world. Furyk will be hoping this lights a huge fire under the American team. The Ryder Cup will be held Sept. 28-30 at Le Golf National outside Paris.
