Don’t worry, golf fans, the tournament put on by the Tiger Woods foundation will be happening with or without a sponsor! Jay Monahan, commissioner of golf’s PGA Tour, told the media on Tuesday that the tournament is already scheduled and will not be taken off.
The tournament will go by the name The National as of now, since they have failed to lock down a sponsor. They are still in talks with potential sponsors, including former sponsor Quicken Loans, but nothing is set in stone as of yet. It seems like the Detroit-based company would like to sponsor a tournament closer to home and not win the Washington D.C. area, where The National will be taking place.
Here is what Monahan had to say about the event:
We made the commitment. Our players are going to be showing up there and we’re going to be playing for that amount of money ($7.1 million).
It is good to see that the event, which started in 2007, is still going strong. Hopefully they can find a sponsor soon if Quicken Loans is out for sure.
