Louis Oosthuizen and Kyle Stanley posted the top scores in Round 2 of the Players Championship. They both shot a 6-under 66 on their way to the top of the leaderboard. Oosthuizen and Stanley will share the lead at 9-under heading into moving day.
Oosthuizen was steady throughout the round with six birdies and no bogeys. He hit a nice mix of short to long range putts but knows there’s a lot of work to be done.
“We’re in a pretty good spot going into this weekend,” Oosthuizen said. “A lot of golf to be played around this golf course, and as we’ve seen the last two days, you can easily make a mistake around this track.”
Kyle Stanley had eight birdies on Friday, his career-high for a single round. One of those birdies came on the 12th when he nailed a 34-foot putt. Stanley has no problem just playing his game.
“Course management around here is kind of a big deal,” Stanley said. “I’ve just found that the more opportunities you give yourself-fairways, greens, boring golf-you’ll probably have some good rounds.”
Both Oosthuizen and Stanley have posted scores of 69 and 66 in the first two rounds. J.B. Holmes trails them by two shots while Vijay Singh is behind by three.
Defending champion Jason Day was even on the day and has a lot of ground to make up at 2-under. Phil Mickelson is also at 2-under. Jordan Spieth however, did not make the cut.
