Saturday began at the WGC Dell Match Play with the Round of 16 matches. Then came the quarterfinals, which featured these matchups:

  • Dustin Johnson (1) vs. Alex Noren (8)
  • Ross Fisher (47) vs. Hideto Tanihara (54)
  • Soren Kjeldsen (62) vs. Jon Rahm (21)
  • Phil Mickelson (14) vs. Bill Haas (42)

From there, the semifinals for Sunday shook out like this:

  • Dustin Johnson (1) vs. Hideto Tanihara (54)
  • Jon Rahm (21) vs. Bill Haas (42)

Jon Rahm has been insanely impressive, winning 43% of the holes he has played in this tournament. Dustin Johnson has been doing what he’s been doing all season, just playing his game and dominating.

Bill Haas and Hideto Tanihara, cannot be automatically counted out either.

Haas has not been perfect, but he’s beaten some very good players so far. He beat Russell Knox and Danny Willett in the group stage, and took out Phil Mickelson in the quarterfinal despite the crowd’s open support for Lefty.

Hideto Tanihara beat Jordan Spieth in Round 1 and Paul Casey in the Round of 16. He now faces the burden of trying to overcome the No. 1 player in the world.

The semifinals tee of at 10:00 a.m. Eastern with Jon Rahm vs. Bill Haas, and at 10:12 a.m. Eastern with Dustin Johnson vs. Hideto Tanihara.
