The LPGA Tour returns to Michigan for the first time since 2000 with a fantastic field ready to battle at The Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI. The par-71, 6,414-yard course has hosted a number of significant events in the past, including the 1961 Western Open won by Arnold Palmer.
Just past half way in the 2014 season, there is a lot of golf to be played for the Race to the CME Globe. The Tour has had a three week lay-off so the ladies should be well rested and ready for the event. It will also mark the first annual golf event to take place in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula since 2009 when the PGA Tour last hosted the Buick Open in Grand Blanc.
Major champions Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie and Mo Martin will all be on hand to take on the new course. They will be joined by world #1 Stacy Lewis, and two-time 2014 winners Lydia Ko, Jessica Korda, Anna Nordqvist and Karrie Webb. Also teeing it up this weekend will be 2014 tournament winners Paula Creamer and Inbee Park. This week’s sponsor’s exemptions come from a pair of Big Ten rivals in Michigan State’s Lindsey McPherson and Michigan’s Grace Choi.
Who will come off the break ready to win? Who used the time wisely? Who will win this inaugural event? All these stories and more will be answered this week in the Meijer Classic. Look for these ladies to have an awesome week of golf including; Michelle Wie, Stacy Lewis, and Jessica Korda.
My pick this week will be one of my favorite golfers Brittany Lincicome.
