Bo Van Pelt, with a wonderful chip in on the 17th hole for eagle surged to the lead at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus New Jersey. Van Pelt fired a six under par 65 on Thursday to take the lead after the first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He birdied his first three holes in his opening round to get the day started on a high note. Then he had twelve straight pars before a birdied on 16 and the tremendous eagle on the 17 to get him to six under for the day.
Eight men shot a five under 66 in the opening round and are tied for second including; Cameron Tringale, Hunter Mahan, Charles Howell III, Brendon de Jonge, Ben Martin, Ben Martin, Jim Furyk, and Paul Casey. Three more are tied for tenth at four under par, Ryo Ishikawa, Russell Knox, and Danny Lee.
The hottest golfer on tour right now Rory McIlroy finally cooled off this week showing us he is human with a three over par 74 on Thursday and is tied for 102nd. That is just four shots from last place. Phil Mickelson and Jimmy Walker are at even par after rounds of 71 respectfully. Bubba Watson and Rickie Flower are at three under par some three back of the leader.
