As most of the country witnessed last week’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and all the wacky weather that involved it, they wondered when the true California sun would shine down on the tournament. Well this week the PGA Tour has made it’s way down south on the golden coast to the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. Riviera CC plays to a par 71 and has a total distance of 7,298 yards making it fairly long. The weather is expected to be sunny with temperatures in the mid to low 70’s. Although I do believe the competition will have scores lower than the temperature. Follow along as we take a look at this week’s field.
John Merrick will look to defend his title at the Northern Trust Open as he is paired with Bill Haas and this year’s Phoenix open champion Kevin Stadler. Last week’s champion Jimmy Walker has been on fire as his finishes for this season have all been in the top 20. Walker can expect to contend fairly well this week and I am going to give him a top 15 finish. Jordan Spieth has been a phenomenal player in only his 2nd season. The 20 year old from Dallas, Texas has had top 10 finishes more than once this season and was even in the lead for some time in last week’s tournament. You can expect to see Spieth in the top 20 all week and I would not be surprised to see a win come out of him. Other players you can expect to contend are Harris English, Matt Kuchar, Justin Leonard, as well as Dustin Johnson and Hunter Mahan who both had a strong finish last week at Pebble Beach. My personal pick for this week is Graham DeLaet who has had 4 top 10 finishes including a 2nd place finish twice.
Come Sunday when the course is silent and the winds are calm, one player will come out victorious with a winning check of $1,206,000 along with 500 FedExCup points to their standings. Stay locked into Bunkers Paradise as we keep you up to date with the tournament along with a final recap.
