The second leg of the Florida swing on the PGA TOUR is the WGC–Cadillac Championship to be contested at TPC Blue Monster at Trump Doral. Always a great event because of its proximity to the Masters, the Cadillac Championship will showcase one of the very best fields assembled during the year. Let’s get an early look at the course, the field, the purse and the Fedex Cup implications and get set for a great weekend of golf.
The Course: The TPC Blue Monster has been a stop on the PGA TOUR for almost fifty years. Originally designed by Dick Wilson, the Blue Monster will be closed for play beginning in April and through the rest of the year as it is slated to undergo renovations by famed golf course architect Gil Hanse. With an abundance of water, bunkers and deep Bermuda rough, the Blue Monster places a premium on both length and accuracy. The 18th hole with its famous signature fountain is, visually speaking, one of the best finishing holes on the TOUR and has been ranked by Golf Magazine as one of the top 100 holes in the world.
The Field: Fans will see 49 of the top 50 ranked golfers in the world as only Brandt Snedeker will take a pass due to sore ribs. Defending champion Justin Rose and three-time Doral winner Tiger Woods headline this no-cut event. Currently a field of 65 is set to tee it up.
The Purse: $8,750,000.
Winning share: $1,400,000
Fedex Cup points: 550 points to the winner
Schedule: Thurs, March 7–Sunday, March 10
